Many types of tree are present such as Oak, ash, birch, hazel and hornbeam, and keep an eye out for flowers such as yellow archangel, wood anemone, early purple orchid and the yellow star of Bethlehem, and it;s a good place to see bluebells in the spring. A wide variety of birds breed in the wood.
The woods are also believed to be the site of the ‘Babes in the Wood’ cruel folktale, which depicts two children abandoned in a wood, who die and are covered with leaves by robins.
