When choosing where to go for a family day out in Norfolk, Melsop Farm Park may not immediately spring to mind. But if your kids want to go and see farm animals and want to play at the same time then Melsop Farm Park is certainly worth a visit. It has a vast array of different farm animals (including rare breeds) some of which are roaming free around the paddock, plus indoor and outdoor play areas.
Kid’s view
Ben (3 year old):- The sheepies (lambs) were cool. I got to feed one from a bottle, and it was jumping and jumping around wanting a drink and it was funny! I had chippies and ketchup for lunch and ran around the play area. That was fun!
Luke (7 year old):- I’m not sure if I liked the goats (too jumpy for his liking!), but I liked stroking the little bunny rabbits as they felt really soft. The outdoor play area is very good, though I like the indoor area more as I can zoom around on toy tractors.
Once we paid for entry the kids spotted the outdoor play area and made a beeline for it, stopping briefly to play on the diggers in the sandpit before chasing each other around on the play equipment. It’s nice to sit down while they burn a bit of energy off before we take in the rest of the farm. Then it was off to see the animals before getting a bite to eat and letting the kids play in the indoor play area.
I think the kids enjoyed the animal feeding and petting, and it was a really good experience for them. I’d say it is especially suited to younger children (under 6). We really enjoyed it and would visit again.
Field Notes
If you’re visiting on a wet day (or if it has rained recently) then it’s a good idea to bring wellies (good idea for anywhere outdoor really!). Rain can also make the car park (field) a bit muddy, so bear this in mind when parking your car!
There are goats and other animals roaming around in certain areas, so keep an eye on little ones because goats have been known to knock little kids (i.e. human kids!) over.
Duration of visit: Around 3-4 hours.
