With a big birthday looming in the NorfolkPlaces household we wanted to mark the occasion with a special cake. Yes, there’s some nice ones with a printed image in the big chain supermarkets; all well and good for kids who like Batman, Disney’s Frozen or Spongebob Squarepants. Ok, I’m a big kid who likes those things I just listed, but buying a cake from a supermarket wasn’t going to cut it for this special occasion. We needed something bespoke.
As a kid I recall my parents would get birthday cakes made by local cake-makers; my mum’s 40th birthday was made to look like a Wedgewood doll. So, the bar was set high and we needed someone who could deliver a high-standard bespoke cake.
We have many cake-makers who we follow and follow us on Twitter, and we started our search for a cake-maker extraordinaire there. From the midst of all these wonderful local bakers, we chose Ellie’s Cakery. Ellie’s slogan “If you can think it I can cake it” resonated with our needs and the pictures of previous creations was very impressive.
And we’re very happy with the results; You have to admit, this cake looks pretty saxy! It’s so realistic we have to stop the boys picking it up and try to play it.
We certainly can’t wait to taste it. Now, that’s what I call having our cake and eating it! :o)
